Kirsty Chalmers is an INLIV personal trainer with a life-long passion for sports and fitness. Kirsty knew she wanted to be involved in health and fitness early on, and was able to transform her passion into a career helping people succeed with their health. We sat down with Kirsty to get to know a little bit more about her background, hobbies, and goals heading into the future.

Why did you become a personal trainer?
Sports and fitness have always been such a big part of my life. When I was younger I was part of many extra-curricular sport teams, as well as competed in track and field for 5 years. So naturally, I knew that I wanted to do something health and fitness related.

When I came across the personal training program at Mount Royal University it was the perfect fit. I’ve now been a personal trainer for 5 years and still can’t believe how much I love it.

What are your current certifications and designations?

I am a certified Personal Trainer through CSEP, which is the gold standard of Personal Training in Canada, as well as hold a Precision Nutrition Level 1 Certification and am also certified in Spin (which I teach on the side).

What is your favorite training movement or exercise?
My favorite exercise is the Sumo Squat. It targets multiple large muscle groups at once and there are many different ways you can do it, so most people can succeed at some variation of it.

Kirsty helps Annette succeed with her goal of achieving a healthier lifestyle. Annette is just one of many clients Kirsty works with on a weekly basis.

What was your most satisfying training moment or your favorite client success story?

I’ve worked with a handful of individuals who are very used to dealing with a lot of pain either through a chronic condition, or because they are rehabbing an injury.

When I hear things like “I’ve never felt better” or “I’ve never never been able to work out pain free before!” it really is an amazing feeling.

These clients are typically the most challenging to figure out, but the most rewarding in the end.

What are your hobbies outside of physical activity?

I keep myself very busy, so I really struggle with my work/life balance and do not have much time for hobbies!

I juggle 4 jobs as a personal trainer, group fitness teacher,  spin class teacher, and I also work in a restaurant.

I work everyday, but still try not to use it as an excuse to be lazy! When I don’t work I still get my own workouts in, keep up with my meal prep and I take many, many naps to survive the week.

I do love hanging out with my family and friends when I have free time. I also love binge watching Rupaul’s drag race (I have probably watched it over 100 times).

Do you have a personal goal you’re currently working towards?

I would like to establish a little bit more of a work/life balance in 2020. I would also like to buy my first condo!
