About the procedure
With incidences of skin cancer nearly doubling in the last decade, prevention is on everyone’s mind. Between sunscreen, wide-brimmed hats and the occasional visit to the dermatologist, most people believe they are doing everything possible to prevent this deadly disease. But what most of us don’t realize is the fact that 90% of sun damage happened in our childhood. As an adult, early detection of changes in our skin is one of our greatest allies in the prevention and early treatment of melanomas and other forms of skin cancer.
Skin screening and mole mapping was designed with just this purpose in mind, and today it is recognized as a leading edge, preventative skin cancer screening process. Mole mapping documents the entire surface of the skin with photographs, identifying each mole and its location. This documentation then allows our dermatologist to monitor any changes in size, shape and colour of each mole year after year.
When it comes to skin cancer prevention, mole mapping and skin screening offers us a first line of defence.
