Dr. Christine Pezarro ventured into medical aesthetics in 2002 and quickly discovered it to be the perfect creative outlet for her artistic interests. “I’ve always been fascinated by medicine and also drawn to visual elements and beauty, including photography, art, architecture and nature. Medical aesthetics are ideal for me as they blend health and beauty. It’s like fashion for your face!” says Dr. Chris.

First inspired to pursue a career in medicine, Dr. Christine Pezarro, CCFP, FCFP was intrigued by the human body and its ability to work, function and heal itself. After working in Calgary as a family physician for 16 years, she began studying and administering non-surgical cosmetic treatments and quickly determined it was the path she wanted to explore.

I’ve always been fascinated by medicine and also drawn to visual elements and beauty, including photography, art, architecture and nature. Medical aesthetics are ideal for me as they blend health and beauty.

She began her medical aesthetics career working at the first medical spa in Canada which was then owned and operated by Dr. Wendy Smeltzer Medical Director of INLIV. Having entered into medical aesthetics when that area of expertise was still quite new has provided Dr. Pezarro with an interesting perspective, as she has experienced the industry expand and progress. “Beginning my medical aesthetics career with Dr. Smeltzer has been inspiring. She’s recognized as a thought-leader and innovator in the industry and is known for her unwavering commitment to the highest standards.”

And Dr. Pezarro has helped guide the industry forward, too, serving as an executive board member for the Canadian Association of Aesthetic Medicine (CAAM) from 2009 – 2014.

“The industry has grown exponentially since I first began administering treatments and I love the expansive range of options available for clients. New products and treatments are constantly being introduced. There are so many different fillers now, each designed for a specific area or need, and injection techniques are being revolutionized to provide optimum results. It’s exciting to be constantly learning, enhancing my knowledge and further honing my skills.”

When asked what her favourite treatment is, Dr. Chris quickly names Botox and fillers at the top of her list. “Clients love the refreshed, relaxed, natural look we achieve. They want to look like the best version of themselves; they don’t want to look ‘done’. Botox and fillers are amazing treatments that deliver great results without being aggressive or invasive.

She also lists PRP (platelet rich plasma) as one of her preferred treatments for reducing fine lines, improving skin texture and rejuvenating the skin. “PRP is really wonderful for that little bit of crinkling under the eyes, for fine lines on the cheek, and is really great for the neck, as well.”

Joining the INLIV team in 2014 was an easy decision for Dr. Pezarro. “Working at INLIV, I’m always confident I’ll have everything I need to do my job well. We even have a full crash-cart with every possible medication and piece of equipment you could need for any medical emergency. That’s how we do things at INLIV and reflects our commitment to complete medical care.”

And Dr. Chris adds some fun to the INLIV atmosphere. “She has such a crazy, wonderful sense of humour,” says Raeshell Birin, our medical aesthetics coordinator. “She’s very serious about her work – and she’s hilarious, too!”

When she’s not at work, Dr. Chris takes every opportunity to stay active and get outdoors, hiking, road biking, running and skiing. She has completed several half marathons and has her Yoga Teacher training certificate. She recently completed a photography course at SAIT and hopes to capture some great photos of her upcoming adventures, including a ski trip in Italy.
