Dr. Elizabeth Monaghan’s formal education includes a BSc in biochemistry (with
distinction) at University of Lethbridge, a full scholarship to McGill University
for one year as a visiting student in the Centre d’études canadiennes-françaises,
MD (Medical Degree) at University of Alberta, CCFP (specialization in Family
Medicine) at University of Calgary.
Her career has included rural, remote, and urban experience in both community
and hospital settings. Rockyview General Hospital has literally been a second
home since 1992, involving general medical, obstetrical, and neonatal ICU care.
Her commitment to care was acknowledged with a RGH Physician Staff Award in
2010. She has been a member of the Calgary West Central Primary Care
Network since 2007. She worked as an assessment physician for the Alberta
Medical Association’s Physician and Family Support Program from 2012-2018.
She has completed most of the Canadian Medical Association’s Physician
Leadership Institute courses and is eligible for CCPE designation (Canadian
Certified Physician Executive).
She enjoyed clinical teaching in office and hospital settings, was accepted to the
Master Teacher Program at University of Calgary’s Cummings School of
Medicine in 2011, completed the Teaching Scholars in Medicine Program, and
maintains a teaching contract with the medical school which involves teaching
across the curriculum – clinical skills, facilitation of small group learning,
simulation, lecturing, mentoring, and academic review. Since joining in 2011,
she is honoured to be on the “Medical Students’ Honour Roll for Teaching” each
year and recipient of the “Associate Dean’s Letter of Excellence in Teaching.”
Since joining INLIV in 2013, Dr. Monaghan has become a valuable member of
our medical team. She set up our medical emergency response protocol, is
excited to recruit other physicians to our expanding team, and is very dedicated
to her patients.
“Her knowledge, calm demeanour, and innate coaching ability make her an
excellent resource for all on our INLIV team,” says Dr. Wendy Smeltzer, INLIV
medical care we have been trained to deliver but struggle to deliver in other
environments. I feel that I can offer my best to patients at INLIV because of the
appropriate amount of time with patients, the presence of other
multidisciplinary health care providers, and the supportive INLIV team which
makes work FUN! At the end of the day, my work satisfaction comes from
knowing that I am set up with the appropriate resources to provide my best to
patients,” says Dr. Monaghan.
